Know Your Customer
Identity verification
KYC — what it is,
and why we do it.
KYC means “Know Your Customer.” It's how we make sure the people on SOV platforms are real — so when you rent a property, pay for a service, place a bid, or accept a donation, the person on the other side is who they say they are.
What KYC unlocks for you
Different SOV platforms unlock different actions when you verify. The most common ones:
- Post listings on RentMeTT, TTClassifieds, DealzTT, FixNowTT and others.
- Receive payments via Fygaro, LINX, bank transfer, or upcoming TTPay rails.
- Accept donations on ShowLoveTT and have a verified-organiser badge.
- Hire or be hired on FindWorkTT with a verified employer or candidate badge.
- Run a verified seller profile on DealzTT and FoodsTT.
- Withdraw funds safely and meet T&T anti-fraud and tax compliance rules.
How it works — 5 steps
Sign up
Create an account on any SOV platform with your email and basic details. Takes about 60 seconds.
Upload one ID document
A clear photo or scan of your driver's permit, national ID card, or passport. Front and back if it has both sides.
Take a quick selfie
A live selfie taken from your phone — we use this to confirm the ID belongs to you, not someone else.
We verify
Our team (and our verification system) checks the documents within 1 business day. Most approvals happen the same day.
You're unlocked
You can now post listings, receive payments, hire drivers, accept donations, or run a verified seller account — depending on the platform.
What we ask for
- One photo ID — TT driver's permit, national ID card, or passport. Clear photo, all four corners visible.
- A live selfie — taken on the spot from your phone or laptop camera. Confirms the ID belongs to you.
- For businesses — BIR registration number and a company name. Sole traders: your TT$ business registration is enough.
- For payment withdrawals — your bank account name and number (RBC, Republic, FCB, Scotia, First Citizens, etc.) for payout.
That's it. We don't ask for utility bills, references, or anything we don't actually need.
How we keep your data safe
- Encrypted at rest and in transit. All documents are stored in encrypted cloud storage. Transit uses TLS 1.3.
- Access is logged. Only specific verified staff can view documents, and every access is audit-logged.
- Used only for verification. We do not sell, share, or use KYC documents for advertising, profiling, or anything other than confirming your identity.
- You can request deletion. Once verified, the document image itself can be deleted on request — we keep only the verification record (a yes/no flag plus date).
How long does it take?
- Same business day — the typical case. Submit before 4 pm, get verified before close.
- Up to 1 business day — if our team needs to follow up (e.g. a blurry photo).
- Up to 3 business days — only in rare cases where document text is unreadable and we need a re-upload.
Common questions
Do I need to KYC just to browse? No. Browsing, searching, comparing — all free, no verification required. KYC kicks in when you want to take a real action: post, sell, hire, donate, or get paid.
What if my ID is expired? We can't accept expired IDs. Renew at the licensing office or apply for a passport, then come back.
I'm under 18 — can I KYC? Not on most platforms. SOV services are for adults (18+) under T&T law. Some platforms (like TalkFreeTT browsing) don't require KYC at all.
Will my photo show up publicly? No. The ID and selfie are private — only used for verification, never displayed on your profile. Only your name and a small “Verified” badge show publicly.
What if I'm rejected? We'll email you the reason. Almost always it's a blurry photo — re-upload and you're sorted within hours.
Ready to verify?
Sign up on whichever SOV platform you want to use. You'll see the KYC prompt the first time you try to take a verified action. The whole flow takes about 3 minutes.
